Replacement filter for the Austin Air HealthMate Plus® with Pre-Filter. The Austin Air HealthMate Plus® removes a wide range of gases, chemicals, VOC’s and formaldehyde. This broad-spectrum adsorption makes it the best choice for people exposed to smoke from wildfires and people living close to busy highways.
All our filters are designed to last up to five years under normal residential use. You can check the size of your existing filter by looking for a label on the bottom of the unit. Model HM400 indicates standard size filter. Still not sure which filter you need? Our Standard size filters measure 14.5” high.
Feel like an upgrade?
All standard size units are interchangeable with all standard size filters. So, if you purchased a HealthMate Plus® and would like to upgrade to a Bedroom Machine Filter®, you can replace your old HealthMate Plus® filter with a new Bedroom Machine Filter®.
What is the difference?
The Bedroom Machine® Filter includes Military Grade HEGA Carbon Cloth. HEGA* (High Efficiency Gas Arrestance), provides an extremely large surface area for adsorption of chemicals, gases, viruses and bacteria. The other Standard Filters do not include HEGA cloth.
*HEGA (High Efficiency Gas Arrestance) is a term that is unique to Austin Air. A HEGA filter is a military carbon cloth filter medium that is featured in our Allergy Machine and Bedroom Machine.

Filter Specifications
- STAGE 1 – Large Particle Pre-filter. Removes particles easily seen by the naked eye (e.g. dust, hair and pet dander)
- STAGE 2 – Medium Particle Pre-filter. Removes small to medium size particles (e.g. molds, spores and pollen) Color: gray, blue or green
- STAGE 3 – Over 780 cubic inches of Activated Carbon, Potassium Iodide Impregnated Carbon and Zeolite. Removes Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), formaldehyde, benzenes, chemicals, gases and odors.
- STAGE 4 – 60 sq. ft. of True Medical Grade HEPA. Removes 99.97% of all particles 0.3 microns and larger and 99% of all particles 0.1 microns and larger.

All of our filters have the same first two stages of filter as follows:

Is it time to replace my filter?
There are two indications that your filter needs to be replaced:
- An unpleasant odor coming from the unit means that the carbon in the filter is full and the filter needs to be replaced, and
- Significantly reduced airflow coming from the unit means that the HEPA filter is full and the filter needs to be replaced.
Filter Warranty
The amount of carbon, the carbon bed thickness, and the amount of True Medical HEPA paper in our filters allows us to achieve a pro-rated five (5) year warranty. Our filters should last for five years in a normal household setting.
Austin Air provides a five (5) year pro-rated filter warranty, by far the most comprehensive in the industry. This means if the filter lasts less than five years, Austin Air will discount the cost of a new filter based on the number of years the filter has been in use. Rest assured, Austin Air filters are designed to last for an unprecedented 5 years under normal residential use.
